Vancouver is a magnificent place. I was fortunate to visit back in 2007, and am even luckier to be returning this summer to work on the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, providing commentary for the world feed for HBS.
There are nine matches to be played at BC Place in Vancouver, including the final, and I am honoured to have been chosen to do all of them at BC for a worldwide television audience.
When you are doing a world feed commentary you are never quite sure where it is being heard. Last year when I was in Brazil for the World Cup I got a text from a family member saying they were in Mauritius watching a match I was doing.
This years Women’s World Cup is going to be the biggest (24 teams) and hopefully the best; I was in Germany four years ago and that was a superb event. My best memory was doing Germany v France in Monchengladbach; a six goal thriller in front of nearly forty-six thousand spectators.
The hosts Canada have high hopes of success on home soil; the United States are confident they can lift the trophy; while Germany are always strong. As for the holders Japan, I will be doing their opening two matches in Vancouver; whether they will return to the city for the final in July remains to be seen.
